THIS MONTH'S MEETING
The Heart of the Valley Homebrew Club usually meets on the third Wednesday of each month, alternating between Corvallis and Albany.
This month's meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 18, at 7:00pm at the Calapooia Brewing Company (formerly the Oregon Trader),at 140 Hill Street NE in Albany. We will be making plans for the upcoming Holiday party, club elections, and the holiday train pub crawl. Come try some great brews by new owner Mark Martin and support your local brewery. Directions are as follows:
From Corvallis, head east on Highway 20 towards Albany. After crossing the Willamette River in Albany, turn left at the second street which is, in fact, 2nd Avenue. Proceed east on Second Avenue approximately 1 mile and turn left on Hill Street, one block after the small overpass. The Calapooia Brewing Company is on the left corner 1 block down on Hill Street and Water Avenue.
From Albany, head to downtown Albany and turn right on 2nd Avenue. Proceed east on Second Avenue approximately 1 mile and turn left on Hill Street, one block after the small overpass. The Calapooia Brewing Company is on the left corner 1 block down on Hill Street and Water Avenue.
LAST MONTH'S MEETING
Last month's meeting was hosted by Bill Baxter at his home in Corvallis. Despite an unusual September drizzle, Bill turned things tropical with some Jamaican jerked chicken, beans and rice, and other fine treats. President Jerry, weary from a long flight back from Israel, led us through a brief business overview, and then we retired to Bill's outdoor cabana for some philosophical and political musings. Thanks for the great food and generous hosting Bill!
SUCCESSFUL LITTER PICK-UP
A litter pick-up of our adopted stretch of Highway 20 took place on September 23, organized by the litter czar extraordinaire Kristen Taylor. Thanks to Kristen, Tom Parker, John Sterner, Pete Petryszak, David Schlinkert, Charley Renn, Ron Hall, and Doug Goeger for picking up a whopping 33 bags of garbage! Also thanks to Oregon Trail Brewery for donating some excellent brew and Kristen for the excellent Tamale Soup that was enjoyed after the pickup.
ASK NOT WHAT YOUR HOMEBREW CLUB CAN DO FOR YOU..
Nominations for club officers will take place at the October meeting and elections will take place at the November meeting. Incumbents have decided not to seek re-election for president, treasurer, newsletter editor, and litter czar, so be ready to step up, show up, and be elected. It can be rewarding and a great resume padder! Other offices are vice president and festival chair, and we can always use a little healthy competition for every office. Think about what you want to see change in the club and come make it happen!
HOLIDAY PARTY DATE SET
This year's HOTV holiday party will take place on SATURDAY, December 16, at the home of Michael Hoppe in North Albany. This is one of the special events of the year, so don't miss the feasting, Name that Beer competition, beer ring toss, beer and chocolate tasting, and other fine festivities. This is a busy time of year for parties, so mark your calendar now and keep that date open!

HOTV CLUB EQUIPMENT
Our club has brew gear that is available for members to use. All of the items reside at Corvallis Brewing Supply. There is a one week check out limit unless pre-arranged with the equipment dude...that would be me.

- RIMS (Recirculating Infusion Mash System) Due to the tenacity of this piece of equipment I would strongly suggest that you have a training brew session with someone who has experience in using it. Scott Caul has in the past been gracious to hold open house brewing sessions with this fine piece (of equipment) usually several times of the year.
- Motorized Grain Mill
- CO2 kit - Includes CO2 bottle, regulator and tool box full of draft parts
- Oxygen Bottle and Infusion Stone

If you have a piece of equipment that is collecting dust and you would like to donate it to the club please let me know.
