THIS MONTH'S MEETING

The Heart of the Valley Homebrew Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month, alternating between Corvallis and Albany. The July HOTV meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 19 at 7:00 pm.

Also, the AHA Club Only Competition for this month is Mead. Bring any meads you have to be judged and win free entry and shipment to the AHA Club only competition for our club.

LAST MONTH'S MEETING

Last month’s meeting was hosted by Doug and Mare Goeger at their home in far North Albany. The meeting featured a feeding frenzy of tasting all the leftover homebrew entries from the festival. There were a few gems left, and some that merited a sip and dump. Mare provided some great chili and cornbread, while a few diehard OSU baseball fans snuck a look at a World Series game on their way to the NCAA National Championship. Thanks Doug and Mare!

FISH FRY EXTRAVAGANZA by Ron Hall

Those lucky 20-25 members and family who attended the event this past Sunday at the Blue Den Trout Farm and Ranch in Scio can testify to what an incredible event this was. HOTV members Louis and Karen Hans coordinated this event, which featured fly fishing, boating, kayaking and swimming on the ranch’s four lakes set on 700 acres, as well as a tour of a museum of farm equipment used in the Willamette Valley over the last 100 years. The fly fishing action for trophy trout and bullfrogs was terrific, and the crawfish roundup in the nearby creek yielded a couple dozen crawfish as well as a lot of laughs. Everybody got a chance to taste the catch at the trout and frog leg BBQ and crawfish boil that followed. Members who attended are definitely interested in trying to pursue this setting for the club picnic next year. A huge thanks to Louis for setting this up, as well as Clint from Blue Den for the tour and hosting this event.

PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL BEER FESTIVAL by Ron Hall

While I have no financial interest in this festival, I have become a big fan of the Portland International Beer Festival which takes place July 14-16 in the North Park Blocks in Portland. Here is a chance to taste dozens of intriguing beers from Germany, Belgian, the USA, and all over the world in one place. Many beers are on-tap, and even more are in bottles. The setting is much more relaxed and peaceful than the Oregon Brewers Festival which happens on the waterfront during the last weekend of July. I hope to see you there. HOTV CLUB EQUIPMENT

Our club has brew gear that is available for members to use. All of the items reside at Corvallis Brewing Supply. There is a one week check out limit unless pre-arranged with the equipment dude...that would be me.

RIMS (Recirculating Infusion Mash System) Due to the tenacity of this piece of equipment I would strongly suggest that you have a training brew session with someone who has experience in using it. Scott Caul has in the past been gracious to hold open house brewing sessions with this fine piece (of equipment) usually several times of the year.
