! Heart of the Valley Homebrewers

This is the HOTV Brewsletter
September 2004

VICE-PRESIDENT: Matt Arsenault
TREASURER: Scott Leonard

The Heart of the Valley Homebrew Club meets on the third Wednesday of each month, alternating between Corvallis and Albany. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m., hosted by Michael Villiardos.

Directions to Michael's house: From anywhere, start heading South on 4th Street in Corvallis. You'll go on the bridge over the Mary's River and will now be on 3rd Street / Hwy 99W South. At the first traffic light after crossing the bridge, turn Left onto Crystal Lake Drive. The road will curve around and eventually parallel the river. There will be a cemetery on your left. Take a Right on the SECOND entrance to Crystal Circle. Michael's house is the 4th on the Left. It's a blue house, 2028 Crystal Circle. If you screw up, his number is 757-7334.

Meeting preview: Bring your moke-flavored & wood-aged beers to the meeting. Dave will send the one selected by our esteemed committee of tasters on to the AHA Club-Only Competition.

Boy did our president to a good job coordinating things for this year's picnic held at Albany's Bryant Park. Everything came off smoothly with a smaller than usual, but up-to-no-good crowd. Has everybody seen the picture of Scott Caul exiting the port-a-potty with a tub full of water flying thru the air just moments away from contact with the unknowing Scott in it's path? Could Joel be the perpetrator? A picture's worth a thousand words. See Dave Benson's pic for details. Aside from more good food than we all could eat, there was lots of brew and games. Sausages and corn on the grill and bacon wrapped, shrimp stuffed grilled jalapenos were among the many notable goodies too numerous to mention. Check out the golf results below.

Calling for volunteers to help clean up our section of Hwy 20. This quarter we'll be collecting litter on Sunday, Sept. 19th since the day before is a Beaver football homegame (too treacherous). Meet at 11am at Hyak Park. Please let Mare Goeger (mdgoeger@proaxis.com) know if you will be able to help.

Five HOTVers took to the links at the Golf Club of Oregon early on the pre-picnic morn. President Caul organized the round of 9 holes. It apparently didn't matter WHICH 9 holes were played because Doug and Mare Goeger and Gene Gregg somehow ended up on the 18th hole when they should have been playing number 5. They also spent a good deal of time playing off the cart path, but they didn't have a cart. Scott Leonard, Scott Caul and his friend rounded out the two three-somes. It's assumed they did better than the other group, but they're mum about particulars. Barring a call from the PGA with an offer to join some of those big bucks tournaments, we'll be out there again next year, if not before.
